The Wayfinder is located near a waterfront in Newport town, in Rhode Island.

Reopened in 2020 as The Wayfinder, the former Mainstay hotel was refurbished by New York-based design firm Reunion Goods & Services for Phil Hospod, hotelier and CEO of Dovetail + CoSelon. The Wayfinder was designed to be evocative of a house rather than a hotel. The interior spaces have been refreshed in particular by optimizing the light with white walls enlivened with a variety of colors like burnt red, blue, green, and mustard. Existing elements have been retained such as the stone and terrazzo floors, and the wood-paneled walls. The lobby features a dark blue ceiling, a lounge with a large custom U-shaped sofa, a mustard central fireplace with a glass enclosure, ottomans, rattan chairs, houseplants, and many other cozy seating nooks scattered throughout the space, inviting to gather.

The hotel includes 197 spacious suites that make you feel like you are staying with friends or in a summer house. The rooms feature a pale palette reflective of the hotel’s beach location, with soft blues, greens tones, and off-white walls. Rooms have a small seating area, custom furnishings, vintage finds, luxury linen and bed throws by Rhode Island’s family-run home linen store Matouk, and woven roller blinds. Bathrooms have showers and crafted soap bath products from Newport’s Shore Soap Company.

In collaboration with local designers and artisans, the hotel exhibits a large collection of contemporary artworks throughout the property. The hotel’s all-day signature restaurant, Nomi Park, serves a menu brimming with New England classics. The hotel has a swimming pool, terrace filled with fringed umbrellas and sunbathing, and a retail shop curated by Newport based Bohemian Bias.
