Schgaguler is a minimalist hotel with strong architectural identity that reflects its alpine location.

A contemporary version of alpine style

Hotel Schgaguler is located in Northern Italy, in South Tyrol, in the small village of Castelrotto, at the foot of the Schlern mountain.

The family-run hotel was built in 1986 with a traditional alpine architecture with steeply sloping roofs and wooden balconies. The outdated mountain hotel was completely renovated in collaboration with the Milanese studio Peter Pichler Architecture.

Re-opened in 2018, the Schgaguler hotel presents a more modern design and more minimal aesthetics. The existing three-block structure has also been preserved. The new concrete façade treated with white plaster echoes the geology of the surrounding mountains. The interiors, redesigned by Martin Schgaguler, are both sophisticated and relaxed.

The hotel counts 42 rooms and suites. They are characterized by a pure and timeless design, with the bare essentials, evoking a warm and luxurious atmosphere. The rooms are decorated in a Nordic style, in a light color palette, with contemporary furniture made to measure in local woods, chestnut parquet flooring, Wishbone and NychairX chairs, and Santiago Roqueta’s Basic Lampe lamps. Each room has an open bathroom in waxed concrete, with a Monica Graffeo island bathtub and Angelo Mangiarotti sink, designed in Italy. All rooms face southwest to receive the warmth of the sun and offer a view over the mountains through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

On the ground floor, the bar lounge has a five-meter high ceiling and opens out onto a large sunny terrace. There is also the hotel’s restaurant, whose Alpine-Mediterranean cuisine is flavored with local products. The underground level houses the wellness area, with two heated swimming pools, an outdoor jacuzzi, a sauna and fitness room.
