Riad 42: Guesthouse in Marrakech
In Marrakech, it's rare to find a simple and clean décor, Riad 42 chose to focus on the essentials to create a minimalist and sober place to stay.
Elegance and minimalism in one spot
Located in the historical center of Marrakech, Riad 42 was a traditional Moroccan house which was lovingly refurbished by a Franco-Belgian couple who had fallen under the medina’s spell.
At Riad 42, the old and the new are made one, the building’s original architectural elements have been preserved while creating a minimalist and understated style that promotes a sense of well-being. Wooden furniture, natural elements, woven textiles, beautiful materials, as well as a soft and neutral color palette enhanced with dark grey accents have been incorporated throughout the Riad. The inner courtyard is adorned with white pillars, surrounded by potted banana palms, and by wooden doors and black painted balconies. A glass-walled lounge with low-rise sofas, woven mats and an exposed brick fireplace creates a pleasant corner where you can relax.
The Riad has 5 bright and monochrome suites with high ceilings and furnished with natural tones and wood accents. The beds are dressed in white linen and hand-woven wool blankets. Thick wooly Berber carpets lay across the tadelakt (lime plaster) floor. The simplicity continues in the bathrooms, where you will also find tadelakt sinks, large open showers, and brass faucets.
Breakfast is a convivial meal cooked with fresh market produce, served on the roof-top terrace at a communal table. A sunken in pool and sail-shaped canvases on the roof also provide optimal shade for a lazy afternoon. Hand-woven hats are made available to guests.
Riad 42 breathes serenity in the middle of a lively medina.
