Palm: Hotel in Ahangama

On the southern coast of Sri Lanka, Palm is a new hotel with a bold concept where nature and concrete collide in the Sri Lankan jungle.

Book Palm

new tropical escape

On the southern coast of Sri Lanka in Ahangama, a popular surf hotspot, the Palm hotel is nestled between rice fields and palm trees five km inland.

Its owners, Miriam, Swiss with Sri Lankan roots, and Laurie, an Englishwoman, opened Palm in 2019. They had initially discovered an old sprawling coconut plantation that they fell in love with. The location was ideal for creating a unique blend of tropical architecture inspired by the industrial warehouses in Shoreditch. The raw main structures of the hotel are designed with double-height black shipping containers, embellished with large black steel warehouse style windows. For the interiors, Miriam and Laurie worked with local artisans and materials.

The hotel offers 6 A-shaped cabins designed in corrugated iron and 2 suites on stilts in several locations throughout the site. The minimalist cabins feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows, whitewashed bamboo wall panelling, smooth concrete floors and bed frames, natural colors, comfortable beds with linen sheets, bamboo lanterns, and custom-made rattan furniture. Each cabin has an outdoor bathroom with a rain shower and natural toiletries.

A local breakfast and Sri Lankan flavored dishes for dinner are served at the outdoor restaurant. The hotel also has a bar, a 14m swimming pool, a Crossfit gym, and a concept store. The hotel also offers massages and yoga classes.

Palm is tropical hospitality that blends in perfectly with its jungle surroundings.
