An authentic Portuguese getaway

Located in the middle of the authentic Alentejo, in the region of Arraiolos, north of Evora, Casas Caiadas is a set of rural guesthouses.

“Casas Caiadas” means whitewashed houses. The owners Mario and Paula, a young couple from Lisbon, bought a piece of land surrounded by century-old olive trees and ancient menhirs, with streams flowing between the stones, old watermills, and four dilapidated houses, called Moinho do Barroco. The complex has been restored while preserving as many original aspects as possible, in collaboration with the architectural firm Pereira Miguel Arquitectos. The property is accessible via a dirt road, through a cork forest, and only in summer, since the river fills up and overflows in winter.

Casas Caiadas consists of 3 independent houses + 1 main house with common areas including a living room, dining room, kitchen, and patio, and a bathroom. Paula, one of the owners, coordinated all the interior design. The atmosphere is warm and the rooms are bright and clean, combining traditional Portuguese elements and modern comfort. Alongside the tiled floors are a series of handmade objects made of wood and cork, as well as furniture created by the Portuguese designer João Bruno Videira. Fresh, locally made breakfast is served every morning.

Meals can be cooked on request by a local chef, offering specialties of Alentejo gastronomy and wines. Casas Caiadas has an amazing semicircular swimming pool that reflects the blue skies, as if you were on a beach. Bicycles are made available to visit the surrounding area.

Casas Caiadas is the ideal place to escape in total isolation to relax and enjoy the peace around you.
