A designer refuge in the woods

Launched in 2017, Vipp Shelter is a cabin for rent located on Lake Immeln shore, 23 km North of the town of Kristianstad, in Southern Sweden.

Vipp is a Danish design brand known for its famous contemporary household items such as kitchens and pedal dustbins. Wishing to also extend to design spaces, the brand has designed a unique modernist refuge offering a return to nature, enveloped in Vipp DNA. Created by Morten Bo Jensen (Vipp’s chief designer), Vipp Shleter is a factory prefabricated micro-dwelling in north of Copenhagen, consisting of a rectangular box with simple lines, with a steel and glass frame, elevated off the ground by pilotis in order to minimize both environmental impact and weather damage.

Nestled in the middle of the woods, the cabin for two people, extends over an area of 55 sqm, and includes an open-plan living space including a kitchen, a dining area, a bathroom with a shower, a daybed room with a fireplace, and a utility room hidden behind a closet door, on the main level. A ladder leads to the narrow sleeping loft, where there is a bedroom, which has a glazed ceiling. The interiors are sober, elegant, minimalist and functional. They feature a black monochrome palette and gray felt wall linings, combined with incontournables Vipp products, including kitchen modules, faucets, mirrors, shelves, furniture, dining table, benches, lighting, bed linens, dish towel, soap dispensers, and even a toilet-cleaning brush. Everything needed, nothing more, each object embodies the philosophy of the brand. The transparent shell with a lot of floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors let in the natural light, blur the lines between indoors and outdoors, and offer a total immersion in nature. An exterior storage system allows to store the logs for the fireplace.
