La Hermandad de Villalba is a house for rent located in the main square of the Villalba de los Barros village in the famous wine-growing province of Tierra de Barros surrounded by rolling rust-colored hills in the south of the Extremadura region of Spain.
The family house was renovated in 2018 by Madrid architects Cristina Domínguez Lucas and Fernando Hernández-Gil. The building built in 1773 has retained its architecture and many original elements have been refreshed such as the facade, the walls plastered with raw lime mortar, the floors with new fired clay tiles set diagonally, the whitewashed tall vaulted ceilings and ornate decorative wood doorways. New openings introduce more daylight into the interior. Modern objects and furnishings have been added offering guests a taste of contemporary hospitality.
The house with a surface area of 250 m2 on two levels accommodates social spaces with a living room, a dining room, a fitted kitchen, hallways, and a bathroom on the ground floor. A stone staircase leads upstairs where there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers. Interiors feature earthy tones, walls and floors are complemented by sections of exposed brickwork, shiny deep-red ceramic tiles in the living room and kitchen mimic the colour of the town’s natural terrain, the richly decorated doors as well as the window shutters are also painted in mint green like a subtle visual nod to Tierra de Barros’ abundance of vineyards. The furniture includes designer pieces from Normann Copenhagen, &Tradition, Kresta Design, and Flos lighting. At the rear of the house there is a courtyard also clad with clay tiles and a small saltwater swimming pool for cooling off on hot summer days.
It is a rural house, ideal to disconnect from the big cities and to immerse yourself in the heritage culture that Villalba de los Barros offers.
