Flokehyttene Cabins: Cabins in Sveio

Flokehyttene cabins punctuate Norway’s coastline, offering panoramic views of the gusty North Sea and the Ryvarden lighthouse.

Where endless sky meets the majestic sea

Flokehyttene Cabins is a set of individually rented cabins located at the end of the Ryvarden promontory in Sveio, a 30-minute drive from downtown Haugesund, Norway.

The resort was designed by Haugesund-based architectural firm Holon Arkitektur for the local tourist office Haugesund Turistforening, a local branch of the Norwegian Trekking Association. The Flokehyttene Cabins complex was named in honour of the expedition of the Viking Floke Vilgerdsson. The project should tread lightly on the landscape without leaving a permanent mark on the terrainon and in the landscape. Each wooden cabin was built on stilts with just four steel columns anchored in the rock. Their triangular shape and the flat cut are carefully planned to withstand the harsh climate with its strong winds that sometimes ravage the Western Norwegian coast. The resort consists of 5 independent cabins, each with a panoramic view of the magnificent North Sea landscape, in order to be as close as possible to nature. Each structure has a living space downstairs with a lounge, a fitted kitchen, and a toilet. A staircase leads to the mezzanine and the sleeping area. The interiors feature a minimalist style with wood and concrete, combined with modern fittings. The heart of each cabin is a fireplace that allows guests to keep warm and cosy inside while watching the waves crashing against the cabin walls outside. The cabins are modest in size but offer all the necessary comfort in a warm atmosphere. Each cabin has been named after a member of the Floke Vilgerdsson family; his grandfather Horda-Kåre, his mother Vilgjerd, his daughters Geirhild and Tjogerd, and Faxe who joined Floke on his expedition. Four of the cabins can accommodate up to 5 people with two beds along the downstairs window and three upstairs. The larger cabin with a double unit can accommodate up to 10 people.

Flokehyttene Cabins is an ideal retreat to disconnect and reconnect with nature.
