Elsewhere Cabin Retreat: Cabin in Georgetown
In Texas, Elsewhere Cabin Retreat, offers a refuge for city dwellers who wish to reconnect with nature.
A new kind of retreat
Elsewhere Cabin Retreat is a cabin for rent located just outside of Georgetown, North of Austin, in the US state of Texas.
Elsewhere Cabin A is a prototype that was designed in 2018 by Seattle-based architect Sean O’Neill for Ryan McLaughlin, founder of Elsewhere, an Austin-area vacation rental company. The goal was to create a compact living space with everything one would need for a weekend of disconnection and fresh air. Situated on an idyllic ranch in Hill Country with horses, Longhorns cows, and other local wildlife such as turkey and deer, the trailer-mounted cabin is dressed in burnt cedar wood siding and a pitched roof. Elsewhere Cabin Retreat can accommodate a maximum of 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children. Open-plan and thought out down to the smallest detail, the cabin consists of a living space with a sofa that can be converted into an extra bed, a small fully equipped kitchen, a small office with integrated wireless charging, a small bathroom with a toilet without water and a beautiful rain shower stocked with Public Goods soaps, and a double bed on the mezzanine, accessible via a wooden ladder. Interiors feature walls and a ceiling clad in Chilean pine plywood, and a floor is clad in interlocking rubber tiles, combined with integrated plywood components, functional, versatile and compact. Glass doors open onto a small wooden deck acts as a connector between the cabin and the landscape.
The cabin is completely off-grid. A fiberglass door hides a storage space that contains a solar water heater, a propane tank and wood for a fire bowl. Solar panels provide power for lighting, and wifi.
With just 15 m2 of surface area, the cabin is intentionally small, meant to encourage guests for a solo or couple to spend more time outdoors and enjoying the nature. A perfect getaway 30 minutes from bustling Austin town.
