Casa Mami: House in Pioneertown

An eco-friendly design retreat

Casa Mami is a house for rent since late 2018, located in Pioneertown, at the edge of Joshua Tree National Park, in Southern California.

The pueblo-style home was remodelled by Carlos Naude and Whitney Brown, a couple in life, trendy Los Angeles-based designers, and founders of the creative studio, Working Holiday. This serene, eco-designed minimalist design retreat is sitting on 5 acres of sprawling arid desert. To make the tiny building stand out against its surroundings, the exterior features white stucco walls contrasted with black joinery to really distinguish itself, and light-colored gravel around the property juxtaposing the sandy ground.

The 92 square meter house has a living room with a wood-burning fireplace, an open-plan fitted kitchen, a dining area, two bedrooms, a bathroom with a bathtub, and an outdoor area. Interiors feature a simple, clean and modern vintage-inspired style. Large La Cantina out-swing French doors let in the natural light and offer stunning mountain views. More than 30 innovative owners favourite brands equip the house, which serves as a showroom, and where everything is available for sale via the online shop. These include rbw lighting fixtures, a Moooi Cloud sofa by Marcel Wanders, Hay accessories, Snowe sheets and towels, Avocado Natural Queen mattresses, toiletries from Public Goods, Louise Gray posters, Bend outdoor furniture, a set of Laun lounge chairs… among others. Casa Mami is completely off-grid, running on its own solar power and water tank. The area is teeming with local wildlife, so it is possible to run into a few unexpected guests; wild rabbits, coyotes and even mountain lions. During the night, the secluded location makes for an incredible stargazing experience. Casa Mami offers to live a retreat in the middle of nature.
