In Berlin, the new Hotel Wilmina offers former prison cells transformed into quiet rooms.
A place of natural tranquility
Wilmina is nestled in the heart of bustling Charlottenburg, along one of the city’s main thoroughfares, Kantstrasse. This former courthouse and abandoned women’s prison has been transformed by the German firm Grüntuch Ernst Architects into a “quiet” hotel. The rooms occupy the former prison cells which have been merged, to accommodate comfortable spaces with bathrooms. Rooms still have bars on windows and the original cell door.
