The Retreat at Blue Lagoon Iceland: Hotel in Grindavik
Amidst breathtaking nature, hot springs and lava rocks, The Retreat at Bleu Lagoon is a one-of-a-kind hotel.
A one-of-a-kind hotel
The Retreat at Blue Lagoon is located in an 800-year-old lava flow in the heart of the Reykjanes Peninsula, 45 minutes southwest of Reykjavik. Established in 1992, the Blue Lagoon geothermal station attracts tourists from all over the world thanks to the unique quality of its milky, healing geothermal water, rich in minerals, and the exceptional landscapes that surround it.
Opened in 2018, The Retreat is the first and only five-star hotel to open by the lagoon.
This luxury retreat was designed by Basalt Architects in collaboration with Design Group Italia. In order to perfectly integrate the construction into the natural environment, the exterior of the entrance hall and some roofs have been covered with moss and lava rocks. Inside, warm woods contrast with various concrete, rock and lava surfaces to create a welcoming atmosphere while maintaining a simple, linear style. All the furniture in the hotel was created by B&B Italia.
The hotel has 62 spacious suites ranging in size from 40 to 200 sqm. Some have a private balcony or terrace and wonderful views. Three suites have access to their own private lagoon. Suites feature a minimalist aesthetic, with floor-to-ceiling windows that draw attention to the view of the lagoon or moss-covered rocks.
Moss, the hotel’s restaurant offers gourmet Icelandic cuisine. The chef’s table can accommodate up to 10 diners who can sit at a large lava table and enjoy a 7-course menu.
The wellness area nestled in the volcanic rock extends over more than 4 000 sqm with access to more than 900 sqm of Blue Lagoon. A sauna area, various relaxation areas, retreat rooms with massages, steam baths and many other facilities are available.
The Retreat at Blue Lagoon is a perfect destination for those looking to rejuvenate and relax in an unusual setting.
