The Alex hotel is located in the Merrion Square area of Dublin. The Alex opened its doors in 2018 with a relaxed vibe to appeal to new generations of travelers.

The hotel is part of the O’Callaghan Group. The 1990 building that housed The Alexander hotel, one of Dublin’s most established hotels, was renovated and transformed into The Alex during 13 months of work by the Dublin-based architecture and interior design firm, 21Spaces. The industrial district and cable car line that once passed right in front of the hotel inspired the hotel’s design and details. Inside, everything is custom-made by Irish craftsmen to achieve a unique identity. Alongside custom-made finishes you will find high-end furniture such as the Frankie chair from Färg & Blanche and coffee tables from the Danish brand Gubi.

The hotel has 105 rooms and suites. The soft powdered pink walls, retro telephones, velvet cushions and Foxford Woolen Mills woollen plaids, large circular metal mirrors are combined with walnut cabinets and leather headboards handmade by O’Donnell. Carefully curated works of art by Luke Stevenson reflect local wildlife. Each room has a bathroom with a rain shower, while the Alex Suite has a bathtub.

The first floor of the hotel is a connected space, with a library and a shared workspace featuring two common desks in solid walnut with brass Anglepoise lamps. The Carriage restaurant serves tasty cuisine with local and seasonal products. Breakfast is served as a buffet. There is also a bar, a gym, an outdoor terrace, and The Steam café which uses Cloud Picker coffee beans.
