To the south of Lisbon, in the heart of the Comporta nature reserve, in the village of Carvalhal, is where you’ll find Quinta da Comporta.

Open since 2019, it is an exclusive address combining well-being and a connection to nature. Its designer is the Portuguese architect Miguel Câncio Martins (who also designed the Sublime Comporta hotel). Set on the edge of rice fields, this eco-chic hotel has been designed as a traditional Comporta farmhouse, with bamboo, reeds, thatched roofs, raw wood, blue trim on whitewashed walls, and a touch of contemporary style. The original buildings which were demolished and then rebuilt exactly as they were, now house the hotel’s living quarters. The decoration is a true expression of Bohemian style with neutral colors, natural materials, and pieces created by local craftsmen.

Housed in converted warehouses, the 73 suites and 4 villas with swimming pool blend perfectly into the landscape. Each one is decorated differently; canisse doors, seagrass carpets, hardwood floors, woven straw baskets on the walls, and handmade wicker furniture, and patterned fabrics. The bathrooms are equipped with a shower and bathtub, and include Oryza Lab rice-inspired toiletries.

Breakfast is served buffet-style. The restaurant offers seasonal cuisine, using products from the organic garden on the hotel’s grounds. The hotel has a 40-meter long infinity pool overlooking the rice fields. There is also an Oryza Spa housed in an old wooden barn imported from Canada, with a heated swimming pool, sauna, and fitness center. The hotel offers a cinema lounge, yoga and meditation classes, bicycles, and a shuttle bus to the beach. In order to minimize the ecological impact, the hotel uses solar panels and recycles wastewater.
