Punta Caliza

Punta Caliza: Hotel in Holbox

On the island of Holbox, the Punta Caliza hotel offers a contemporary interpretation of the Mayan tradition.

Book Punta Caliza

Exceptional and inspired by Mayan architecture

The Punta Caliza hotel is located on the Mexican island of Holbox, off the Yucatan Peninsula.

A car-less island only accessible by ferry, Holbox is a fishing village and an emerging seaside destination in the Yum Balam nature reserve. Owned by the Muñoz family, the eco-chic hotel is an intimate sanctuary designed in collaboration with the Guadalajara-based architecture firm Estudio Macías Peredo. The hotel took nearly four years to build.

Opened in 2017, Punta Caliza stands less than 100 meters from the emerald waters, on a triangular terrain. The hotel’s aesthetic is unique, with three simple and sleek spaces, it is a modern and more geometric interpretation of Mayan structures. The hotel was entirely made of aromatic cedar wood from the family’s tree farm in Tabasco. The sloping roofs are made of “palapa” straw, waterproof and adapted to the heat of the tropical climate. The floors and walls are made of chukum – an ancient Mayan stucco.

Punta Caliza has 12 rooms. The design is a minimalist contemporary summer feel, with warm white walls and a large terrace with a view of the sea. The design is minimalist contemporary summer, with warm shades of green and off white. Each room is decorated with carefully selected Mexican-made furniture and textiles to showcase regional talent. Each room has a private pool that is connected to the triangle-shaped central pool, reflecting the shape of the property. The all-around atmosphere is warm and comfortable.

Punta Caliza has a Mexican restaurant specializing in local recipes. The hotel has a high tower at the end of the hotel with a breathtaking view of the island, and s also a great place to watch the sunset.

In Yucatán’s trendiest seaside destination, Punta Caliza is an elegant, stylish, and sustainable alternative.
