Monsieur Didot: Hotel in Athens
Monsieur Didot is a hotel that highlights Athens' neoclassical heritage with contemporary refinement.
A private home turned into a charming hotel
Located between the chic Athenian district of Kolonaki and the trendy Exarchia district, Monsieur Didot is a new charming hotel in the center of the Greek capital.
The name is inspired from the Didot family who were French typists, publishers, booksellers, and creators of the famous font that bears his name. Designed and run by a group of friends, the hotel, originally a landmarked neo-classical building, dating more than hundred years old, has been meticulously restored in collaboration with the Athenian firm BaBatchas Design Studio. Through the use of traditional methods and natural elements, the designers emphasized details such as high hand-painted ceilings, hidden doors, secret passageways, and vintage mosaics.
Monsieur Didot offers 4 elegant rooms and 2 suites, with earthy tones and a turn-of-the-century ambiance, offset by contemporary touches, including hand-made ceramics, framed artwork, custom lighting, and specially designed furniture by BaBatchas. Each room and suite has a unique story to tell, with names inspired by poetry and prose.
Your day begins with a sumptuous homemade breakfast, inspired by the traditional Greek diet, made with carefully selected organic ingredients from all over the country, that can either be enjoyed in your room or on the hotel’s rooftop terrace during the summer months. An imposing wooden staircase leads to the second floor and into a comfortable living room.
There is no restaurant on site, but Monsieur Didot’s team has compiled together a list of the trendiest restaurants, bistros, and cocktail bars in the area.
Based on the “at home” philosophy, Monsieur Didot in the perfect place to stay in Athens.
