Open in early 2018, the Mitchelton hotel, located less than two hours from Melbourne in the Victorian countryside near Nagambia on the banks of the Goulburn River, offers casual luxury.

Mitchelton is first and foremost a working winery designed by Australian architect Robin Boyd in 1967. The estate was bought by caravan tycoon Gerry Ryan and his son Andrew. The Hecker Guthrie architecture and interior design firm merged together old and new, respecting the building’s original structure, as well as the place’s history and rural setting, to create a new experience. The hotel combines modern aesthetics, welcoming decor, and comfortable spaces. Inside, you will find that a desaturated range of colors induces a peaceful state of mind and invites you to admire the surrounding nature. The decor features earthy browns and muted greys, alongside marble furniture.

Mitchelton counts 58 rooms with refined aesthetics and sophisticated design, inspired by the surrounding natural environment. Each room, decorated in ochre tones, features wood millwork, linen curtains, artwork by Trevor Mein & David Band and Bose audio systems, creating a soft and warm space. Each room has large bay windows that open onto a terrace with a breathtaking view of the Goulburn River or the estate’s rows of vineyards.

The hotel lobby is filled with art, solid leather sofas, and a fireplace. The Muse restaurant offers a menu of local Goulburn Valley produce, accompanied by perfectly assorted wines. The Mitchelton Day Spa is a great place to relax in the peaceful confines of nature. Along the banks of the Goulbourn River is a 20m infinity pool and terrace, designed by Jamie Clapham. The hotel also has an art gallery.
