Gorgeous George

Gorgeous George: Hotel in Cape Town

Local design and cutting-edge innovations collide at Gorgeous George, the newest addition to Cape Town's downtown scene.

Book Gorgeous George

Gorgeous George wears its name well

Situated between St George’s Mall and Green Market Square, in the heart of Cape Town’s downtown, Gorgeous George is a new eclectic boutique hotel centered around art and design.

Built from two original buildings that have been restored (one being an Edwardian Revival and the other, Art Deco), Gorgeous George benefits from the rich and historic architecture of the downtown area. You enter the hotel through brass doors opening onto 1800 hand-painted ceramic tiles, representing a map of Cape Town.

Inside, the hotel is decorated with works of art, lighting fixtures, and furniture designed by South African designers and artists.

Unlike the buildings themselves, the 32 rooms (20 rooms and 12 suites) are strikingly contemporary. They have a warm industrial mood to them. They are designed using palettes of blue and green colors, exposed concrete, raw steel, paneled windows, wood, metal, velvet, mixed in with modern Victorian design elements. The rooms incorporate unique African-influenced objects, hand-painted murals, and vintage objects. Some have a sitting area with a comfortable sofa and coffee table. The rooms all offer a city view and have a bathroom equipped with a rain shower or a free-standing bathtub.

Breakfast is served on the roof top located on the 6th floor.

The roof top “Gigi” is a real oasis of urban greenery where you’ll find a bar, a restaurant serving local seasonal dishes, a lounge, a library-style dining room, a terrace, a variety of restaurants and a restaurant with a view of the city. There is a bar, a restaurant serving local seasonal dishes, a lounge, a library-style dining room, a terrace, plenty of seating and a green striped swimming pool.

Gorgeous George is a unique and timeless hotel, quite simply magnificent.
