Casona Sforza pays homage to the natural environment

Casona Sforza is nestled on the serene landscape of La Barra de Colotepec, facing the golden sands of the Pacific Coast, in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico.

Opened in 2021, the hotel was created by entrepreneur Ezequiel Ayarza Sforza and designed by renowned Mexican architect Alberto Kalach of TAX Architects. The hotel consists of arched volumes of varying heights, which are arranged in an asymmetrical manner. The vaulted shape offers several benefits, including being able to withstand earthquakes and allowing positive energy to flow into the spaces. The volumes are constructed of local bricks, a material that helps keep interior rooms cool without the use of air conditioning. The bricks have a pale yellow hue that reflects sunlight.

The hotel offers only 11 suites of different sizes and views which come in three categories – Junior, Senior and Master. Six suites are located on the upper floors and offer balconies with views of the sea. Five other suites are at ground level and come with a terrace and private pool. All of the units have vaulted ceilings. The interior design, overseen by Mexico City’s MOB Studio, is bohemian in style, with the use of earthy colours, tropical woods and handcrafted decor. The woven rugs, palm leaf lamps, curtains, chairs and hammocks, as well as much of the furniture and decoration were made in Mexico.

The hotel has a farm-to-table restaurant, with fresh ingredients sourced from local producers. The catering area also accommodates a bar, a wine cellar, and the chef’s table.

The experience is complemented by services that cater for the hedonistic pleasures, such as a large circular swimming pool for cooling off, private yoga sessions, holistic massages and private surfing lessons.
