Casa Modesta: Guesthouse in Olhao
Casa Modesta is a rural contemporary retreat located in the Ria Formosa nature reserve in southern Portugal.
Casa Modesta combines authenticity and contemporary
Located in the Algarve, in the surroundings of the Ria Formosa nature reserve, Casa Modesta is a rural retreat with a contemporary design, surrounded by almond and olive orchards.
Built-in 1940 on his grandparents’ property, the house was named by Carlos, the owner, in honor of his mother. This former fisherman’s home has been renovated by Carlos’ sister Vania in collaboration with her architectural firm PAr. It combines local materials and modern design to preserve the original architecture and spirit of the family home.
The house is divided into two immaculate white cubic spaces, including bedrooms and common areas. The interiors are minimalist and sober, characterized by vaulted brick ceilings and traditional terracotta tiles, complemented by wooden furniture and custom-made cork and brass lamps.
Casa Modesta consists of 9 rooms, each with a patio and a roof terrace to contemplate the beautiful scenery. Each room is bright and is decorated in white tones with wooden bed bases, woven bedspreads, touches of cork and brass, and ceramic craftwork. The bathrooms are open, covered with white handmade tiles and equipped with brass faucets.
A generous homemade breakfast is served in the garden during summertime. Casa Modesta grows its own organic vegetable garden and offers a table d’hôte for dinner. The house has a beautiful wine cellar, a living room with a fireplace, a garden, and an ecological swimming pool with terracotta tiling. Relaxing therapies using local ingredients are also made available.
Casa Modesta is a design and tailor-made rustic hotel experience.
